Living Options For Youth

Hoodie“At first I didn’t know what to think of the LOFY program. After being here I realize that if not for LOFY I would probably be on the streets doing crime to survive and probably be in jail.”  Ryan, 18

About LOFY

The Living Options For Youth (LOFY) program shelters youth with a maximum capacity of 14.  LOFY is staffed 20 hours a day, seven days a week with qualified youth support workers and volunteers.

Youth living at LOFY must be drug- and alcohol-free. This policy is strictly enforced.

In 2015, LOFY provided shelter to 155 youth.

“I enjoy living at the shelter, everyone has their own problems and the staff accepts that and do not judge you. The shelter provides you with security knowing that you have somewhere to go at the end of the night. The staff is very caring and is always there to listen. Within the little time I have been here, the shelter has given me a stable home and the security I haven’t really ever had in the past.”  Jason, 19

“If LOFY wasn’t here I would have to stay in a dangerous situation. LOFY has taught me important life skills and staff has helped steer me in the right direction.”  Mellissa, 20

At Stratford Perth Shelterlink, our mission is to assist homeless youth and those at risk of becoming homeless. We do more than just assist in finding them a warm safe bed — we are actively working with youth to assist them in their pursuits, through education and skills development supports. We were recently the recipients of a grant through the Emergency Community Support Fund in conjunction with the local Stratford Perth Community Foundation. The grant allowed us to purchase laptops and upgrade our internet and purchase supplies for skills development programming. The staff and youth at the shelter are thrilled they will be able to carry on with education and pursue employment opportunities during the pandemic.

Stratford Perth Shelterlink are the proud recipients of a $7000 grant from the Emergency Community Support Fund with the assistance of the local Stratford Perth Community Foundation.

The grant was much needed support to our local Living Options for Youth and Emergency Community Placement Program which assists homeless youth, or those at risk of experiencing homelessness, during COVID 19.  COVID 19 cancelled a major fundraiser for our organization so we are grateful for the assistance to allow our programs to continue and our shelter to remain operational 24 hours a day.
