đ Drop off at Shelterlink â 103 Youngs St, Stratford
đ Call 519-272-2294 or email valeriet@shelterlink.org
Our shelter buildingâowned by Stratford General Hospitalâdoes not have air conditioning, and it gets extremely hot during the warmer months. The rooms are very small (just 108 sq ft) and only have a small upper window that opens, offering little to no airflow at body level.
This creates uncomfortable and often unbearable conditions, especially for youth who are trying to rest, recover, and stabilize their lives.
We are in need of:
Fans (quiet and efficient)
Portable A/C units that do not require window installation
A proper nightâs rest is not a luxuryâitâs a basic human need. Helping us cool the shelter means helping young people feel safe, rested, and ready to take on a new day.
Please consider donating a fan or air conditioner, or contributing funds toward purchasing these items. Every bit helps make Shelterlink a more livable, dignified space.
At Shelterlink, we believe healing happens on every levelâphysical, emotional, and spiritual. Our Wellness & Prevention Pathway offers youth opportunities to grow through creative expression, mindfulness, and hands-on learning.
This includes our Art Therapy Grief Program, where youth can process loss, trauma, and transition through guided creative exercises. Many of the young people we serve have experienced profound grief, and art becomes a gentle, powerful outlet for healing.
Programs like gardening, life skills workshops, and mindfulness practices complement this by building emotional resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

At Shelterlink, we are incredibly grateful for every item our community donates. From clothing to kitchenware to books, your generosity helps us support youth ages 16â24 who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
We accept all donations with gratitude. However, there are times when we receive items we canât use immediatelyâdue to storage limitations, duplicates, or specific participant needs. Rather than letting these resources go to waste, weâve created a smart, sustainable system that ensures every donation still makes an impact.
Weâve partnered with Value VillageÂź through FUNDriveÂź, a free fundraising initiative that allows us to transform unneeded or surplus items into financial support for Shelterlink programs.
How it works:
We collect gently used items from our community
Items we cannot use directly are donated to Value VillageÂź
Shelterlink receives funds based on the weight of donated goods
This partnership can generate over $3,000 annuallyâjust by collecting 125 bags every two months!
This means your donations support youth directly and help generate ongoing funding for the programs they rely on.
To ensure every item is used with intention, we follow a clear donation process:
We accept and log all donations
Staff record the donorâs name, contact info, and a clear description of the items (e.g., â2 bags of teen clothingâ rather than just âclothingâ)
Donations are sorted into two categories:
â Shelterlink Use â Items provided directly to youth in need
đ° FUNDriveÂź Donations â Items converted into revenue for programs
Valuations are tracked using CRA guidelines (e.g., a used bag of clothing = ~$27 CAD), and this information is logged into our donor management system
This process helps us maintain financial transparency, demonstrate impact to our Board, and validate our programs with actual figuresâall while showing our donors and sponsors that Shelterlink is a worthy investment.
To help us sort and process your donations efficiently, please follow the guidelines below:
Includes:
Clothing (all sizes and seasons)
Linens (sheets, pillowcases, towels, blankets)
Packing Instructions:
Use clear plastic bags (e.g., garbage or recycling bags)
Tie bags securely for easy handling
Why it matters: Clear bags help us quickly identify contents and speed up sorting.
Includes:
Home décor (vases, picture frames, figurines)
Kitchenware (pots, pans, dishes, utensils)
Small plug-in appliances (toasters, blenders, coffee makers)
Packing Instructions:
Place items in sturdy boxes
Label boxes if possible (e.g., âkitchen,â âdecorâ)
Avoid overpackingâboxes must be easy to lift
Why it matters: Keeps items protected and makes them easier to store and move.
Includes:
Books and magazines
CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes
Video games
Packing Instructions:
Use small to medium boxes
Ensure boxes are light enough to lift easily
Pack separately from household items
Why it matters: Media items are heavyâsmaller boxes help prevent damage and protect our staff and volunteers.
Your donationâbig or small, needed now or laterâalways helps a young person take their next step toward independence. Whether itâs providing a warm coat today or funding mental health supports through FUNDriveÂź tomorrow, you are making a difference.
Weâre happy to help.
